In Afrikaans this translates to stove cakes.  In Britain, we would refer to these as drop scones, which South Africa call them flapjacks.  Confused?  It is in essence thick batter being the difference to normal pancakes, or french style crepes.

  1. Beat the egg white until stiff peaks are formed when you remove the whisk. Leave aside for the time being. Mix all the other ingredients together (remember to include the egg yolk) until a smooth batter is formed, then fold in the whisked egg whites.
  2. Heat up a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat on the stove. (A electric frying pan can also be used). Once bubbles start forming on the top of the crumpet, you know it is ready to be turned over. Bake to a nice golden colour. Serve with honey, syrup and fresh berries.
Recipe Notes

These can be kept in an airtight container and served cold later (if there are any left!)
